Eden’s Blessing on Your Marriage: Part 1

Why would you want this in your life? So what is Eden’s Blessing?

Let’s look at Genesis Chapter 1, verses 27-28:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them,”Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (niv)

Verse 26 describes the blessing God declared over mankind. Verse 28 describes the marriage blessing. The marriage blessing is a fivefold blessing from God. God gave five powerful dimensions of Blessing to His man and woman so that no matter what they encountered, they could overcome it and expand God’s Kingdom rule and garden lifestyle throughout the whole desolate earth. That blessing is still available today, but it needs to become a revelation to you and your husband or wife in order to become activated in your marriage. Does that mean that if you are not married that you are not blessed? Absolutely not! If you are born-again, the Blessing belongs to you as well. The Blessing was on each of them. Through the act of marriage however, the Blessing power increases exponentially.

Deuteronomy 32:30
“…one (could) have chased a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight…”(Amplified Version-Paraphrasing mine)

Eden’s Blessing is also known as the Blessing of Abraham or the Blessing of the LORD, released in Genesis chapter 12. It was active in the lives of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and many others as well.

The Fivefold Blessing of Eden is broken down into five distinct components of God-given ability:

• Be Fruitful – You have the grace to bring forth the fruit of your desires including children.
• Multiply – You Have the Power to Increase anything the two of you touch and agree upon.
• Replenish (Fill the Earth) – You will Never run out. Your marriage will be a filling station for whatever you need.
• Subdue – You can bring anything that is going out of control under control including your children, your health, finances, etc.
• Have Dominion-You can dominate any circumstance you encounter and over anything God made (which includes anything man-made).

The first thing you need to know is that both husband and wife need to be born again and filled with the Holy Spirit in order for Eden’s Blessing to fully work. Why do I say that? Because Jesus said in John chapter 15, verses 4 and 5:

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. “

Without Jesus in your life, you cannot live as a ‘branch’ of God’s power and branch out beyond natural limitations and bring glory to God. I am not saying you will not have success. There are many people who have success who do not live for God, but have you ever noticed that they wind up with other major issues? They may have a great business empire, but their marriages just don’t work out or their children wind up disgracing them. Some of the richest, most successful people of our time have led tragic and painful lives. That’s what happens without Jesus as the center and connector of the Covenant Blessing of Eden.

Without a connection to Jesus, the devil will see to it that you stay limited, depressed and hopeless; but if you are hooked up to Jesus, the abundant life source, you can do anything Jesus empowers you to do. Just like Jesus you can overcome the world system and its obstacles.

Be Fruitful

The words – be fruitful used in Genesis 1:28 literally mean to branch out or move beyond limitations. God wants us to operate under Eden’s Blessing in our marriages in such a way as to cause our lives to reach beyond our natural goals, desires and expectations. Have you ever looked back over your life and thought you should be further ahead as a married couple? That is because you have desires that have not yet manifested and goals you have not yet reached. They key is not to get disappointed and give up on your dreams. You may need to restore the element of fruitfulness to your relationship. Just as it takes the man and the woman together to bear the fruit of children, in many instances, it takes the two of them to bear their dreams, desires and expectations. Each of you has the power to stall the other person until they either give up or get too old to feel they can accomplish their dreams or the power to push the other person and propel them towards the fulfillment of their destiny.

Married folks need to learn to become their spouse’s biggest cheerleader. What happens in many instances is doubt or unbelief set in and we become our husband or wife’s biggest critic. We start playing devil’s advocate. Let me tell you, the devil neither needs nor deserves an advocate in your household! If fact, Jesus is our advocate and he said,
“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 18:19 (kjv)

The devil is full of fear and doubt and he’ll minister that to your marriage until the dreams, desires and goals of the household just plain fade away, but don’t you let it happen. Dig in together and call the impossibilities possible. Call things that are not happening as though they have already happened!
