Faith: A Creative Force

From the Beginning, God Created by Faith—and So Can We

From the very beginning, God used faith to create everything we see, and He has given us a similar ability through His Word.

God Begins with Faith; Faith Begins with God

Whatever God begins, He does it through faith. We might think of faith as an idea combined with the power to bring it into existence. Before anything in creation existed, God envisioned the world, humanity, animals, and the universe itself. He brought these ideas into being by speaking them into the void, with the Holy Spirit moving powerfully.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” – Genesis 1:1–3

Without God’s faith, His words, and the Holy Spirit, nothing would have happened. If any one of these vital elements were missing, creation would not have come into existence.

Did you know we are made in God’s image and likeness, meaning we were created to function like Him? We can imagine something and, when it aligns with God’s Word and Spirit, He acts upon it with heavenly power. Challenges arise when our desires do not align with God’s Word. The Holy Spirit is here to act on God’s behalf—not ours. He works for God the Father, and for Him to work on our behalf, we must align our lives with God’s Word.

“Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’” – Genesis 1:26–28

Adam and Eve received these instructions directly from God. Scripture itself is an instructional, historical, and informational guide. However, some people try to follow only select instructions or take passages out of context to suit personal agendas, which leads to frustration.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” – John 1:1–4

When God created humans, His Word was with them, and they were full of His life and light. Their role was simply to follow His instructions. After Adam and Eve sinned, they became separated from God, losing His Word and light. Thankfully, through faith in Jesus, who paid the price for our sins, we can be spiritually reborn. As new creations in God’s likeness, we regain dominion and are given instructions to follow. By following these instructions, we tap into God’s power to bring transformation in our lives. But this requires a willingness to course-correct.

The Sinner’s Prayer

If you desire a new beginning in Christ, pray:

Dear God, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask You to please forgive my sins. I believe in my heart that Jesus is Your Son, that He died for me on the cross, and that You raised Him back to life. Jesus, I declare You are my Lord, and I open my heart to You. Change me, and help me follow You all the days of my life. Help me to become more like You and to do Your will. In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.

Steps for Growing in Your Faith

  1. Know that You Are Forgiven“You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God’s gift to you, and you have done nothing on your own.” – Ephesians 2:8
“For those who put their faith in Jesus: He gave them the right to be the children of God… God Himself was the One who made them His children.” – John 1:12–13
  2. Daily Prayer
Spend time in prayer every day, just as we nourish our bodies with daily food. Your spirit must be fed for growth in your walk with the Lord.
  3. Read the Bible Daily
The Bible is how God reveals Himself to us. As you read, ask God to show you how passages apply to your life. Many daily devotionals and Bible-reading plans are available online or in bookstores.
  4. Fellowship with Other Christians
When you gave your life to Christ, you became part of God’s family. Being involved in a local church will strengthen and encourage you, and you’ll also bless others with your presence.“Do not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another.” – Hebrews 10:25
  5. Grow in Your Relationship with Christ
As you walk with Christ, seek to develop a deeper, personal relationship with Him.“Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.” – 2 Peter 1:3–8
“Live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” – Ephesians 4:1–3
“Grow in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” – Ephesians 4:13

This path guides you to live out your faith actively, aligned with God’s Word and empowered by His Spirit. Let God’s light illuminate your life as you grow in faith and love.
