We all have boundaries around us. When we reach the edge of those boundaries, it can feel like we’ve hit an invisible wall, holding us back from our fullest potential. But this boundary isn’t external—it’s within. No external force can stop you; God designed you with internal capacity to grow and expand! He often allows circumstances to reveal the limits of our hearts so that we can ask Him to enlarge them.
The Prayer of Jabez
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 tells the story of Jabez, who prayed: “Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” And God granted his request.
God’s abundance is available to you too. He is able to “do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). Notice that His power is at work within us—not from the outside in but from the inside out!
Steps to Increase Your Spiritual Capacity
- Enlarge Your Mouth
Begin by declaring God’s promises. Faith begins with words—words that align with God’s promises. - Enlarge Your Heart
Internalize God’s Word. Romans 10:6-8 shows the importance of both speaking and believing: “The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.”
Activate Your Vision
In Isaiah 54:1-4, God calls His people to enlarge their vision. He says, “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch out the curtains…lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.” As we expand our vision and take bold steps, we are setting the stage for God to fill our lives with blessings.
God’s Plan for Spiritual Capacity
Spiritual capacity means reaching the maximum potential God has designed for you. God’s goal is not your comfort but your growth. Sometimes, this growth may come with challenges, but success is born through diligence. As Ecclesiastes 5:3 states, “A dream comes through much activity.”
Steps to Expand Your Capacity
- Recognize the Scriptures God is speaking to your heart. This wisdom is the starting point for growth.
- Meditate on those promises, allowing God’s Word to sink into your heart.
- Pray based on those promises. As you pray, God’s wisdom and guidance will bring fresh revelation.
Keys to Building Spiritual Capacity
- Prolific Vision
Develop a vision filled with creativity and abundance, always preparing for the next harvest God has for you. - Living Word
Let God’s Word become alive within you. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God’s power works within us, beyond what we can ask or imagine. - Logistic Faith
Speak in faith and take action. Jesus said in Mark 11:23, “Whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed,’ and does not doubt, it will happen.” Faith is how we partner with God to bring His promises into reality.
How Do You Follow God?
The way God led you before may not be the way He leads you next. He requires growth and change, as seen in the stories of Moses and Joshua. Moses heard from God, but unbelief kept him from seeing the Promised Land (Numbers 20:1-12). In contrast, Joshua saw God’s plan clearly, which led him to victory. God wants to give you new instructions for a new season, but you must open your heart and increase your spiritual capacity.
God desires that you “see” His promises fulfilled in your life. Proverbs 4:20-27 provides a roadmap: attend to God’s words, keep them in your heart, and let them guide your path. Embrace the process, fully engage with God’s promises, and watch as He expands your world and empowers your life.
Prayer: “Lord, enlarge my capacity and expand my world! Guide me to follow You with fresh eyes and a willing heart. Strengthen my faith and renew my vision, that I may fulfill Your purpose for my life.”
